project construction of a hotel, Brussels
status under construction
period 2018 -
surface area 6.790 m2

The Crowne Plaza Hotel, located on Place Rogier in Brussels, along Boulevard du Jardin Botanique, is expanding.
The expansion comes on an empty plot of land. After 50 years and several attempts, one of the most important urban scars is finally being revamped. The aim of the project is to fill in the inlet on Boulevard du Jardin Botanique and restore the urban fabric.

The modern design integrates into its surroundings with great respect for the past. For instance, the formal language of the façade is fully in line with that of the neighbours it joins.
Besides just the hotel function, which will provide 149 additional rooms, the extension will also provide space for commercial activity on the ground floor, which will breathe new life into this part of the  Place Rogier, and on the roof there will be a panoramic bar and restaurant that will be operated independently. Internal gardens and hanging gardens will complete the whole project.

Stability-wise, the extension is special in that it will be built above the Brussels metro line, which creates several complex structural issues.
