For the new student restaurant on the Middelheim campus in Antwerp, particular emphasis was placed on a carefully conceived and well-executed structural framework in order to achieve high-quality spatial conditions. The large dining hall is especially striking in this respect: a continuous double beam in exposed concrete was designed along the full perimeter, with cantilevered ends at each extremity. The roof of the dining hall is formed by TT girders which, through their geometry, impart a distinct architectural character to the ceiling.
