The house is laid out according to a strict grid of 5 × 5 metre modules. Several cut-outs are made in the plan, always in point symmetry with respect to the building’s centre of gravity. In this way, patios and terraces are interwoven with the interior environment and embedded within the building volume. Beyond the spatial quality they create, these interventions entail a delicate balance in terms of thermal interruptions in order to avoid cold bridges within the structure. Moreover, these outdoor spaces on the ground floor are fully glazed. To prevent visually disruptive structural elements, the concrete slab above the ground floor is, in certain locations, not supported directly but suspended by means of inclined tension members. By structurally exploiting the symmetry of the plan, the horizontal force component introduced into the slab is neutralised. Various structural elements, such as ring beams and lintels in exposed concrete, as well as walls in exposed masonry, are used as finished surfaces, which also required particular attention from UTIL. Both in the development of details and materialisation, and in the contractor’s execution, every aspect was meticulously addressed, resulting in an exceptionally refined outcome.
